グラフィックデザインの教師として働いています。
その他にも、デザイン、絵画、音楽、映画、旅行、
クッキングに興味があります。

My Story
イスラエルの国民は皆、高校卒業と同時に軍隊へ３年間入隊しなければならない。私も例外ではない。大学４年間でグラフィックデザインと教育の学位を取得し、疲れ果てていた。常に空欄を埋めるような生活で全く自由はなかった。
大学卒業後の進路を考えていた時、ジャック・ケルアックの著書『オン・ザ・ロード』に出会った。本書は1940年代後半のアメリカ全土を放浪する二人の主人公の体験を描いている。人生に対する気楽なアプローチは、一つ一つの行動を計画することなく、成り行きに任せて未知の世界を冒険するとてもスリリングな、当時の私にとって全く新しい生き方だった。その本を読み終えた瞬間、私は休憩することを決意した。「航空券を買って、数ヶ月旅をする。世界を見てみよう。」と。
アジアと太平洋を2年間ノンストップで旅をし、あの本の様に何千もの信じられない程興味深い出会いと決して忘れられない多くの経験をした。毎日がスリルの連続だった。
旅に出たことで毎日がかけがえのないことだと教えられた。家族との平穏な生活を離れ、勇気を持って行動を起こすことは、本当の自由を手にする方法だ。旅は完全に私を変えた。飛行機、電車、バス、自転車等を乗り継ぎ移動するだけでも自己発見なのだ。また、直感を信じることは今の日本での生活を可能にしてくれた。
リスクを負いながら今まで行ったことのない場所に行く決意することは、ケルアックのこの素晴らしい本に出会ったお陰だ。これは今までに得た最高の贈り物の一つとなっている。
Every Israeli boy serves 3 years in the army right after high school. I was no exception.
After 4 more years in university, with dual degrees, one in graphic design & another in education, I was exhausted. I was in my mid twenties, but never really free, moving from school to army, from army to university, always checking boxes.
As I was thinking about my next move after university graduation, I came across Jack Kerouac’s book ‘On the Road’. The book describes the experiences of two main characters traveling across America in the late 40’s. The carefree approach to life, taking each day as it comes, venturing into the unknown without planning every single move, was a totally new idea to me at the time, utterly thrilling.
At the moment I finished reading the book, I decided to take a break.
I will buy a flight ticket & go for a few months. I’ll fly to Thailand. I’ll travel. See the world a little.
I took my first flight out of Israel 20 years ago. I ended up traveling Asia & the pacific non-stop for two years, & just like in the book, met thousands of incredibly interesting people, & had numerous amazing experiences I will never forget. Each day was more exciting than the one that ended.
Being on the road made me see how each day is truly a gift. Having the courage to leave the safety of home & daily routines is the only way to grasp true freedom. The trip I took changed me completely. It made me see that traveling isn’t only about the getting on a plane, train, taxi, boat, bus, car, bike, ferry etc. & move from one place to the next, but it’s also, & more importantly, a journey of self discovery.
Moreover, learning to trust my gut instinct, something every traveler learns to do well, made the life I have & love in Japan today possible.
The decision to take a risk and go places I’ve never been before was one of the greatest gifts I ever got, all thanks to this wonderful book by Kerouac.
